THE ENGINEERING PORTFOLIO OF ABHINAV SAYUJ
From an idea in CAD to a prototype on the test bench. An aerospace engineering student building practical experience in design, manufacturing and testing, with a fascination for propulsion.
SEEKING A 12-MONTH PLACEMENT · SUMMER 202701 / SELECTED WORK
DESIGN → BUILD → TEST → REFINEThree university projects that shaped how I approach engineering: make the design clear, test the assumptions, and improve from the evidence.

02 / THE PERSON BEHIND THE PROJECTS
Ever since I was young, I've been curious about how things fly. The vastness of space, and how much there is still to explore, made that curiosity even stronger.
My dad used to show me rocket videos when I was growing up. Those moments helped inspire me to pursue aerospace engineering and understand the systems that make flight and space exploration possible.
I'm a second-year BEng (Hons) Aerospace Engineering with Space Technology student at the University of Hertfordshire. My interests centre on propulsion, aircraft design and advanced manufacturing, with a growing curiosity about cryogenic storage systems.
The part I enjoy most is the step between theory and hardware: making a component manufacturable, finding out why a prototype falls short, and using that evidence to improve it.

03 / TECHNICAL FOCUS
A FOUNDATION TO KEEP BUILDING ONA practical foundation in CAD and prototyping, supported by programming, documentation and an interest in how propulsion systems perform.
Component and assembly modelling, engineering drawings, aerofoil and wing design, and centre-of-gravity assessment.
Prototype construction and assembly, flight-test observations, design evaluation, and revisions informed by performance.
Programming and technical documentation, from bills of materials and project schedules to clear engineering reports and presentations.
EXPLORING THE NEXT QUESTION
Through the GE Aerospace Explore Engineering job simulation, I investigated how turbofan bypass and compression ratios influence engine performance, and compared propulsion energy sources by energy density, cost and storage requirements.
Airbus virtual work experience through Springpod also introduced aircraft design and sustainable aviation concepts.

OPEN TO 2027 PLACEMENTSMy long-term ambition is to help develop propulsion and cryogenic storage systems for aerospace and space exploration. I want to deepen my understanding of how engines are designed and tested, and how propellants are stored and managed. I'm drawn to work that brings design, analysis, manufacturing and practical testing together.
To build towards that goal, I'm seeking a 12-month engineering placement from Summer 2027 in propulsion, aerospace design, manufacturing or testing. I'd welcome the chance to learn from experienced engineers, contribute to real hardware, and develop the practical judgement to turn ideas into systems that can be built, tested and improved.
